Fall in Central Nebraska can be a very exciting time. The weather starts to change, kids are back in school, football is here, hunting season is about to begin and harvest is in full swing. All of these things can be very fun and exciting! Honestly it is my favorite time of year. I love the weather, the smells of fall, the colors, and the rhythm it seems to create in life. The joys of going to the kids school activities, going to pumpkin patches, and of course watching a ton of football.
This great season of the year also comes with many driving dangers as the deer start to move, tractors and trucks are going strong with harvest, and of course young drivers are on the roads more with school and all of the activities. Here at Sabin’s our number one goal is to keep our customers and community safe while on the road. Here are a few things to remember while driving this fall:
- Stay PATIENT. This is a busy time of year and there are going to be a lot of people on the road. Take your time going places, plan ahead, and maybe give yourself a few extra minutes to get to your destinations. Getting upset because things are moving slow will only increase the risk of getting in an accident.
- Stay off phones and electronic devices. While this is always important it becomes much more of a safety risk when the roads get busier. That text, phone call, or Facebook update can wait until you are off the road.
- Make sure your vehicle is running good and that you are up to date on all the maintenance. Check all of your blinkers, brake lights, and headlights to ensure they work properly. Make sure all of your fluids are properly filled. Check your tires to make sure they are properly inflated and that they have good tread. Also check all of your seatbelts to make sure they work properly. (Also make sure you actually wear them, even if your just going across town.) HAVING A PROPERLY MAINTAINED AND FUNCTIONING VEHICLE IS ONE OF THE BEST WAYS TO ENSURE YOURS AND OTHERS SAFETY WHILE ON THE ROAD.
Enjoy the fall weather and the good times. Soak up the memories of this great season. Most of all stay safe on the roads.
